2016 Kia Optima Overview
Sep 17, 2015 - 9:52 PM - by Hyundai Kia Forums

Kia’s Best-Selling Nameplate is Passionately Designed and Obsessively Crafted with European Styling, a Refined Premium Interior and Significant Ride and Handling Improvements

- Optima matures into an expertly crafted sedan with two turbo engine choices and five trims, including the U.S.-exclusive SXL

- Built at Kia’s U.S. plant*, Optima features reduced NVH and a more responsive, confident ride

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 9, 2015 – The all-new 2016 Optima challenges the midsize sedan segment through significant improvements in refinement and obsessive attention to detail. An instant hit with consumers looking for a fresh alternative to an otherwise staid segment, the Optima has been Kia Motors America’s (KMA) top-selling vehicle for three consecutive years, and the all-new model is poised to continue that success.

Conceived under the watchful eye of Kia’s president and chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, with modern and instantly recognizable design cues, the Optima maintains its athletic identity but rides on a chassis that is longer, wider and stiffer for improved ride and handling and a more spacious cabin. Available with three engine choices, including a new 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that’s mated to a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), the Optima is more confident than ever on the road. The all-new Optima’s roomier, more luxurious cabin features an impressive level of craftsmanship that will come standard across five trim levels – LX, LX 1.6T, EX, SX and SXL. Like the outgoing model, the all-new Optima will be built at Kia’s plant* in West Point, Georgia. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch date.

“The Optima changed the way people felt about the Kia brand, and KMA owes much of its growth and... [Read More]

Sporty compact by Hyundai delivers strong value and bold styling to shoppers

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., August 26, 2015 – Today Hyundai released information on the 2016 Accent. Accent provides shoppers with extraordinary value by blending utility, style and performance together in a compact car that’s both attractive and affordable. For the 2016 model year, Accent gets minor changes, including more consistent trim-level naming and some packaging updates. 2016 Accent arrives in dealerships this month at a starting price of $14,745.

Accent Sedan and Accent Hatchback are the vehicle’s two distinct models. For naming consistency, Accent GLS and Accent GS have been renamed to Accent SE Sedan and Accent SE Hatchback, respectively, for the 2016 model year. Accent Hatchback continues to offer a Sport trim, with sportier visual cues and driving dynamics over the SE trim.

Since launch, Accent’s product success has garnered attention from automotive and industry experts, being awarded various coveted awards and accolades. Last month, for the second year in a row, Accent earned the highest honor in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) for the small-car segment. Kia Racing Scores Thrilling Pirelli World Challenge Victory @ Miller Motorsports Park
Aug 28, 2015 - 12:11 PM - by Hyundai Kia Forums

Kia Racing scored a hard-fought victory and notched another podium finish during rounds 13 and 14 of the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) season at Miller Motorsports Park (MMP) in Tooele, Utah, this past weekend. Starting from the pole for round 13 on Saturday, Kia Racing pilot Mark Wilkins, in the No. 38 B.R.A.K.E.S. Optima turbo, battled nose-to-tail with Jack Baldwin’s No. 73 Porsche Cayman for most of the thrilling 50-minute contest. Through careful management of tire wear, Wilkins was able to hold off Baldwin to take the checkered flag – the first win of the 2015 season for defending PWC Grand Touring Sport (GTS) class Manufacturer Champion Kia.

“This win was huge for Kia and for Kinetic Motorsports. The Kia Optima has always been fast, but we’ve been working hard this year with different car setups and race strategy, all in an effort to manage our front tire wear so we have enough traction left at the end of the race to battle with the Porsches, Mustangs and Camaros,” said Wilkins, who set a new GTS lap record at MMP during qualifying with a 1:56.620 time and an average speed of 94.090 mph around the three-mile-long circuit. “I’m not sure I could’ve held Jack (Baldwin) off another lap. I knew he’d be strong at the end of the race like he always is, but we had just enough today to get the Optima back into victory circle where it belongs.” Continue reading: http://kiaforteforum.com/kia-forte-magazine/kia-racing-scores-thrilling-pirelli-world-challenge-victory-at-miller-motorsports-park/

Kia Racing Prepared for Back-To-Back Pirelli World Challenge Events
Aug 21, 2015 - 11:36 AM - by Hyundai Kia Forums

As the grueling 18-race Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) season heads into its final rounds, the Buford, Georgia-based Kia Racing team faces a challenging West Coast swing for rounds 13 and 14 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, August 21-23 and rounds 15 and 16 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California, just four days later. On top of the logistical difficulties of operating 2,000 miles away from their home base for back-to-back races, the vast differences between the two road courses pose an additional challenge to the team. In addition to considering variables related to track lengths and configurations, the engineers must also factor in Miller’s 4,400-foot elevation and the “atmospheric correction” required by PWC rules for Kia’s turbocharged Optimas.

“At higher elevations the air density is much different than at sea level, and our turbocharged engines have an advantage because they are less impacted by the thinner air than are the normally aspirated engines of our competitors,” said Russell Smith, team owner, Kinetic Motorsports. “To keep the playing field as level as possible, the series officials have written an ‘atmospheric correction’ factor into the rule book, which is a formula that lowers our turbo boost in proportion to the barometric pressure at any given track. The challenge is that we have to get it absolutely right. If our cars over-boost at any point during the race weekend, our times would be disqualified for that session, so the stakes are pretty high.” Continue reading: http://kiaforteforum.com/kia-forte-magazine/kia-racing-prepares-for-back-to-back-pirelli-world-challenge-events-at-miller-motorsports-park-and-sonoma-raceway/
