If you are revving it in Park or Neutral there probably is a cut out built into the ECU and it's normal.
Limp mode is set due to a transmission problem and sometimes the neutral gear indicator flashes instead of the ses light coming on.
In limp mode you will only have 3rd and reverse gears. Go to the dealer and have the car scanned with the factory computer which will read transmission codes and data.
