Hello,

My neighbor replaced the rear wheel brake cylinders in his Hyundai Accent once already, and just today I helped him replace the wheel cylinders again after his brakes seized up a second time causing his brake pads and drums to be ruined a second time. I double checked that the brakes were installed correctly on each side and that the adjuster was set with the proper setting.

Once the brakes were bled properly we put the tires on the vehicle and gave them a spin and they turned with little resistance. However, once the brake pedal was pushed it's as if the pressure is not being removed from the wheel cylinder when the foot is removed from the brake pedal, and both wheels are very hard to turn. I can loosen the bleed fitting and the pressure is removed allowing the wheels to turn freely again. But once the brake pedal is pushed again and the foot removed, pressure is remaining on the wheel cylinders causing the wheels to not turn.

Is there a possibility that the master cylinder is going bad, or the proportioning valve might be bad? How would you check either to rule one or the other out?
