It appears that when the gears change it starts to loose power. Is this common for a Hyundai Sonata of this age. And might you know what the problem might be.

Just a guess but a bad torque converter. Those Korean cars from the early 2000's were crap. Their less than reliable, poor resale, & just plain garbage. Trade it or fix it b/c real soon it will be worthless & then dead.
