i'd rather like to hear from owners or mechanics (maybe you had them come into the shop more often or less often than other cars), because they've dealt with them hands on, but consumer reports are good too

Kia's have a lot of problems - especially with the electrical system and engine sensors. I wouldn't buy any Kia that's older than an '08. I would suggest the '08 and up Rio5 which is essentially a Hyundai Accent which is very well rated, or an '01-up Honda Civic. Or you could purchase a brand new Accent and take advantage of the great warranty, and 0% financing for up to 7 years!

Yes, they are great cars.

Te 90's Hyundai's/Kia's were bad cars and that is what gave them such a bad reputation.
And the current Kia Rio's and Hyundai Accent's are also very bad because they are such cheap cars. Under $10,000 new.

Because of that, people will tell you they are bad cars.

But the Kia Spectra/Hyundai Elantra and other Kia's and Hyundai's are very good cars. They don't get many problems at all and they drive very nice. The 04-05 Spectra has a sporty ride. It is fun to drive.

I've had my Kia for almost three years now, the worse problems I've had with it is the battery and coolant overflow jug. I love my car.
