I work at Honda as a mechanic and I still bought a 2007 Hyundai Tucson. Why? Hyundai has come a long way from even 5 years ago. The finish and quality of the new Hyundai's are so much better since Kia (their counterpart) came along.
I haven't heard any bad things from anyone who has bought a newer Hyundai. I haven't had any issues and I'm really happy with my purchase.

Since the Civic's starting production in Canada it's gone downhill. Even the Honda's built in USA are better. Something is wrong with the Alliston plant in Ontario. Too many recalls, too many problems and too many warranty issues. The car is engineered well, just not built well.

But like others are saying, Civic and Tucson are very different vehicles. If you were comparing the Tucson to the CRV like I was that would be easier.

i am not into suv's. I owned an 05 honda civic-bought new-sold it- alot of problems despite it's reputation of being very reliable. Luckily it does have great resale value. Own an 05 hyundai elantra-no problems- (knock-on-wood)

Honda. Honda excels Hyundai in every worthwhile way. Sure, Hyundai has a longer warranty, but with Honda, you don't need a warranty. Honda has spent decades building quality cars that have finally given them a good name. Hyundai has a long history of crappy cars. Only recently have they decided to pick up the pace and increase the quality of their cars. No one knows yet if that is just a disguise or if they really are good cars. Who knows? Hyundai may turn out to be a pile of crap after six years of ownership. At least with Honda, you'll know you have a good car for well over 10 years. In fact, my dad has a 25 year old Honda that still runs beautifully.
