I am pretty sure that the 2007 Tucson I inherited has sludge in the engine. The person I got it from isn't good about oil changes. It still runs okay, but a little loud. I went to check the oil today and found sludge.

Is there anything I can do? If I go to a mechanic, how much will it charge me to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

by sludge do you mean a creamy type of sludge if you do you may have a blown head gasket suggest you get it checked by at least 2 mechanics if the sludge is just dirty oil from not changing it regular then drain it and you can buy flushing oil use that and follow the directions and replace with a good quality oil and maintain regular sevicing

It takes quite a few years of absolutely NO oil changes to get a serious build up of sludge. I doubt a 2007 has much in there.

Sludge is jet black like ink. Is THAT what you have?

Maybe there is some OTHER problem. Check with an HONEST mechanic if you can find one......

A thick build up of sludge cannot be removed with a few oil changes. My brother-in-law bought a Toyota with a sludgy engine. He has been changing oil regularly for 3 years at (3K) and it runs great, but the sludge is still there.
