I finally got the hideous lens / tail light assembly off the car. Went to snatch the bulb itself out of the socket- definitely nothing tricky here, just an obvious pull-out bulb - but it must've never been changed before , years of corrosion or something. it didn't come out. should've stopped then and asked for advice but didn't, pulled / crushed/ bulb smashed -

but the amazing thing is it doesnt' seem to matter. I'm pulling at bits and scraps of the metals itself (the bulb / glass is long gone!), and it would rather TEAR (the metal of the bulb buttom) instead of come out.

Could this even be possible? is there something I'm missing? If not, what are my options, can I spray a bit of wd40 on the edges? at what point will I be ruining the electrical socket?

worst case scenario, i'm without one backup light with this old junker, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas, I'm no mechanic .....thanks!!

did you push in first, push it in and twist. but since your that far take a pair of needle nose pliers and get a hold of the bulb base push in on it and twist, if that doesn't work it may require cutting off the socket and installing a new(er) one. the parentheses denote going to the junk yard, you might get the socket for free, very little cost at any rate.
