First of all, please refrain from saying either Hyundai or Kia make crappy cars. I know they are not THAT good, but they fit my budget.

I am thinking about buying a new car and my list is down to these two cars:

1. 2011 Hyundai Elantra, base model + A/T
http://www.hyundaiusa.com/elantra/gallery.aspx

The dealer suggested 17,500 for this one. I feel good and bad about the exterior because it kind of looks like an angry insect, but it is also kind of pretty to look at from certain angles. I like the nicer interior, and nicer engine it has (than Soul). Overall, Hyundai's have better reputation than Kia's.

2. 2011 Kia Soul+, audio package

Offered at 16,500 or something.

If Hyundai Elantra is just another Civic-like cars in the market, Soul offers something different, and I like that. I also like the big expendable storage area since it's a hatchback. I personally love the look of its butt. I like Soul's dashboard better. In fact I hate Elantra's dashboard - they kind of look like a woman's boobs and I think it would be disturbing to look at if I have to drive one. Even though Kia uses cheaper materials and a decade old technology than Hyundai's do (I know they share some core technologies, but I feel like Hyundai's make use of the latest technology they have come up with, whereas, Kia's only use what Hyundai has been using for years), I like the interior design of the Soul - it's a lot simpler than that of the Elantra.

Which one to choose?

I'd choose the Soul for the looks alone.
