Kia Rio Hatchbacks, anyone?

I'm looking to buy a 2006 Kia Rio Hatchback that has close to 90,000 miles on it. I keep hearing mixed reviews on Kias though. Some say they're junk and I shouldn't waste my time or money on them, but others say "its a good first car". Granted, it won't be my first car, but I feel like it would be a step up from what I had.
Any opinions or suggestions? How long do Kias usually last/are they reliable?
