how much do u think this will cost to fix? I have heard close to $1000. Im just after a rough idea. Thanks.

The rings themselves are not too expensive. But the labor to replace them is. If you are going to get the rings replaced, you may find it better to buy a more recent model car. It will probably cost about $2000 (my guess) or more. Replacing the rings involves pulling the engine and disassembling all the parts to get to them. You might just as well do a complete engine rebuild for about another $2000.. Replacing the engine is an option, but you'll still have a 1996 Hyundai Excel. with its appropriate 1996 model year value. A new engine in an old car makes it an old car with a new engine.

Shop around for price estimates. You'll get a better feel for the cost.
