i got an oil change yesterday, and the check oil light still wont go off. My mom suggested that they forgot to reset the oil light. Anyone know where it is and how to go about it. Thanks so much.
edit that. its not my oil lamp, its my check engine light that is now on. What would cause this?
First, go check your oil level.
Check engine lights only come on for sensors tied in to the emmision systems on the engine.
Oxygen sensor is one example of a sensor tied into the check engine light circuit that will come on if the sensor has failed.
I would pop the hood and inspect for a possible disconnected sensor plug. It is not likely.
You can also reset the storage area that holds these codes manually and see if the light comes back on.
Disconnect the positive cable from the battery for about 2 minutes then reconnect. This will clear any trouble codes and cause the light to go off. If it comes back on in a few days then you will need to have the stored code verified.
Most large parts store chains offer free hook ups to a hand held tester that will pinpoint the faulty sensor. Once we know which sensor we can check for a bad wire, loose connection or just a faulty sensor that needs replacing. So far this has cost you 0$ other than your time.
Good luck mate.
