Hello. We have had this hyundai for the last 2 years it has only done 34,000 miles, its an automatic and only had two owners it has never been in a car accident and has always passed its MOT. The problem is for about a year now the engine management light has been on and for the first 7 months of it being on it was still running fine so we just thought it was a Sensor as we had no money to fix it. Then in december last year it passed its MOT even they just thought it was a Sensor. However the last few months we have had trouble starting the car it takes 15 mins to start in which time it mis fires and seems to take a while before it gets the timing right. Then when it does start it lacks acceleration, randomly selects it gears and struggles with hill climbs.
We have now taken it to be fixed at a garage and they have used there diagnostic machines which concluded an ECU failure. Do you think by what we have said that it definitely is an ECU failure? Also when we went to pick it up from the garage it does not work at all. It will start up but the engine will not keep running. Does anyone know why as it was running before this? Also to get a new ECU installed it is going to cost £650 which is to much money for us. We did think of getting one from a scrap yard but we will need the key as well as it has aimmobilizerr. It just seems such a waste if we will have to rite it off as it has noproblemss other than a little ecu card. Sorry for such a long question please help tho. Thanks
We have been to a garage but we cannot afford £650
